Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies

Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in these areas:
(1)        poor mechanical accuracy;
(2)        inability to tackle questions on customs and institutions;
(3)       inability to meet up with the required essay length.

4.         SUGGESTED REMEDIES

1. Teachers should take the necessary steps to make the teaching of Igbo Language more practical.
2. Teachers should stop limiting their teaching to only topics which they are familiar with.
3. Parents should encourage the use of Igbo in their homes in order to build the vocabulary of their children in the target language.
4. Teachers should take necessary steps in equipping the candidates with the cultural values and systems.
5. Teachers should go the extra mile to make sure that all recommended texts are studied with the candidates.
6. Schools should enforce the buying of recommended literature texts and also increase the time allocated to teaching Igbo on the timetable.
7. Teachers should endeavour to get the candidates acquainted with the required essay length.
