Literature-In-English Paper 3 WASSCE (SC), 2020

Question 2

DELE CHARLEY: The Blood of a Stranger

Examine Wara’s encounter with Soko in the play

Observation

This was also an unpopular question among candidates. Candidates that attempted this question merely narrated the events of the encounter without bringing out their significances.

The required answers should include:

  • The statement of the central theme of colonial exploitation.
  • Character identification.
  • The encounters of Wara and Soko, with textual reference from the text.
  • Wara’s abduction and Whitehead’s attempt on her.
  • After her eventual escape from Whitehead, Soko urges her to run away to a neighbouring village to hide their plans.
  • The significance of the encounters: to spite Kindo and subdue his influence in the land.

Candidates’ performance was fair.
