(b)        State six characteristics of a correct posture.

Observation

 

Majority of the candidates responded to this question but their performance was below average.

In part (a), majority of the candidates could not name the major muscles in the movements.

In part (b), few candidates stated six characteristics of a correct posture.

The expected answers are as follows:

(a)      MAJOR MUSCLES INVOLVED IN MOVEMENTS

  1. Extension of the knee - Quadriceps/Hamstring muscle/extensor
  2. Extension of the forearm - Triceps brachi /Biceps/extensor
  3. Flexion of the knee - Quadriceps/Hamstring /flexor
  4. Flexion of the forearm - Triceps/Biceps /flexor                                  

 

 (b)    CHARACTERISTICS OF A CORRECT POSTURE

-      Head straight on the neck
-      Chest upward and forward
-      Abdomen is flat
-      Knees are straight and relaxed
-      Feet are slightly apart
-      Weight balance on the feet / well distributed
-      Toes pointing straight/forward
-      Body properly aligned
-      Absence of postural defects
-      Smart physical appearance/correct body carriage/strong physique
-      Good functioning of body organs e.g. lungs
-      arms straight and relaxed by the side of the body
