In a volley ball court, demonstrate the skill of spiking. Three attempts are allowed.  [20 marks]

Majority of the candidates responded to this question, and their performance was above average.

Expected answers are as follows:

Activity 5:    Spiking in Volleyball Game

Procedure: A candidate assumes a correct position and spikes into any of the marked areas on
the opposite side of the court. Three trials are allowed.

Use the scale of5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to score stance, approach and execution as the candidate performs the activity.

Allperformances should be judged according to following rubrics:

Stance

(i)          facing the net
(ii)         one leg forward
(iii)        body leans forward slightly
(iv)        some distance from the net
(v)         focus on the setter and the ball

Approach

(i)         move fast towards the direction of the ball
(ii)       focus on the ball while in the air
(iii)      timely take-off
(iv)      take few steps to the net

Execution

(i)         player jumps near the net
(ii)        body is lifted up
(iii)       full extension of the spiking arm
(iv)       hitting the ball forcefully down into the marked area in the opponent’s court
(v)        take-off on both feet / double take-off   

Product Evaluation

The purpose is to measure the ability to spike the ball into the marked area in the court.
