(b) State the correct terminology used in starting each of the following games:

i. badminton;

ii. basketball;

iii. table tennis;

iv. handball;

Observation

 

This question was well attempted by candidates and their performance was above average.

In part (a), majority of the candidates stated the duties of a referee.

In part (b), majority of the candidates stated the correct terminologies used in starting the games listed.

The referee:

  • orders the start of the game
  • decides when the ball becomes dead
  • stops a game when conditions warrant
  • stops play when the ball is dead
  • inspects and approves facilities and equipment
  • allows time-out

  • designates officials game clocks/named
  • makes final decision when necessary
  • determines forfeiture of a game by a team
  • punish unsportsmanlike conducts
  • selects game ball
  • does not permit any player to wear injurious objects
