(a) Explain each of the following methods of baton take-over in relay races:

(i) visual take-over;

(ii) non-visual take-over.

(b) Name four circular races in athletics.

 

Observation

 

This question was popular among the candidates as majority of them responded to it.

In part (a), majority of the candidates were able to explain baton take-over in relay races.
In part (b), majority of the candidates could not name circular races in athletics.

 

The expected answers are as follows:
(a) (i) Visual take-over
This is the type of baton take-over in which the receiver face/look at the runner handling over the baton/incoming runner.                                                                                  

(ii) Non-visual take-over
This is the type of baton take-over in which the outgoing runner does not face the incoming runner, instead stretches the hand backward to receive the baton.                

(b) Circular races in athletics

  • 200m;                          -           400m;
  • 400m hurdles;             -           800m;
  • 400m x 4 relays;          -           100m x 4 relays;
  • 1,500m;                       -           3,000m.
