Candidates were required to

  1. Mention four different ways of obtaining patterns for making garments
  2. State three points to consider when choosing fabrics for making garments
  3. Explain two advantages of making one’s garment
  4. Give two examples each of the following :
    1.  Plain weave fabrics;
    2.  Twill weave.


Majority of the candidates were able to list the ways of obtaining patterns for making garments correctly such as drafting, freehand cutting, draping/modeling, commercial pattern, flat pattern designing/method and knock off method/copying. Candidates also answered correctly the points to consider when choosing fabrics for making garments and explained the advantages of making one’s own garment. Most of the candidates were able to list the examples of plain weave fabric as calico, crepe, ankara, taffeta etc. while some gave examples of twill weave as corduroy, drill. The candidates generally performed very well in this question.
