Question 1

In this question candidates were required to
(a)        Explain the term arrangement of fullness as used in clothing construction.
(b)        Identify ways of arranging fullness.
(c)        State reasons for arranging fullness.
(d)       Give example each for the reasons stated in (c) above.
(e)        Mention  factors that will enhance the choice of a particular method of arranging fullness.


Many candidates were able to answer questions 1a and 1b very well and performed very well but some performed poorly in 1c, 1d and 1e. The reasons for arranging  fullness  include: to decorate the garment ; to fit the body curves and to provide room for growth. In question 1d the expected answers for the examples on the reasons for arranging fullness are: to decorate the garment pleats, shirring, smocking, gathering, tucks gauging and to fit body curves, darts, shirring and tucks. While in question 1(e) the factors that influence the choice of a particular method of arranging fullness are: the fabric being used/pattern of fabric; the figure type and the style.
