(a) Outline five physical manifestations a person with HIV/AIDS is bound to exhibit
(b) Highlight five socio-economic effects of HIV/AIDS on the carrier.       

Observation

This question was equally popular as it attracted a vast number of the candidates. Majority of those who attempted it performed better in the A part than in the B part. In total,  performances of candidates were above average. Additional points candidates could have given are

  1. Weight loss
  2. Skin rashes
  3. Frequent fever/headache
  4. Dry cough/tuberculosis
  5. Mouth, and genital sores/bleeding
  6. Chronic diarrhea/dehydration
  7. Swollen lymph, nodes in the neck, armpits
  8. Profuse sweating at night
  9. Aching muscles and joints
  10. Pneumonia
  11. Chronic fatigue, depression/weakness
  12. Nose, mouth and genital bleeding
  13. Shortness of breath
  14. Chills.

 

SOCIO-ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF HIV/AIDS ON THE CARRIER

  1. Death
  2. Depression/low self-esteem
  3. Increased level of poverty
  4. Increased dependency on family and society
  5. It leads to broken homes
  6. Makes victim very uncomfortable and ill
  7. Stigmatization/discrimination/dehumanization
  8. High Dependency on drugs
  9. Isolation/Withdrawal Syndrome/shame
