(a) Identify five reasons road accidents in Nigeria could be seen as consequences of human’s negligence

(b) Highlight five explicit roles of government in mandating Nigerians to maintain traffic regulation

Observation

This was a popular question amongst the candidates. Majority of the candidates who attempted it demonstrated good mastery of the subject matter. They understood the demands of the question. They performed creditably well and scored high marks in it. They easily related this question to their every day experiences stating out the factors that contributes to accident on the road. Additional points candidates should have listed are

REASONS ROAD ACCIDENTS IN NIGERIA COULD BE SEEN AS CONSEQUENCES OF HUMAN’S NEGLIGENCE.

  1. Over speeding
  2. Disobedience to traffic signs
  3. Disobedience to traffic officials order
  4. Lack of road marks and signs on major roads
  5. Avoiding safety gears e.g. seatbelt, helmet, etc.
  6. Distractions such as phone calls, eating, drinking, reading, adjusting mirrors etc while driving
  7. Poor vision of drivers

 

EXPLICIT ROLES OF GOVERNMENT IN MANDATING NIGERIANS TO MAINTAIN TRAFFIC REGULATION.

  1. Provision of good roads
  2. Provision and erection of traffic lights
  3. Enactment and enforcement of traffic laws
  4. Periodic inspection of vehicles on the road
  5. Establishment, equipping and training of Traffic enforcement agencies
  6. Punishment of traffic offenders
  7. Introduction of road safety regulations and civic duties into school’s curriculum
  8. Symposia and public awareness programmes on road usage
  9. Issuance of driver’s license to only qualified drivers
  10. Provision of Highway Code
