Study the diagram below and answer questions 9(a) to (c).

 

(a)        Identify the activity in the illustrated diagram.                                   [1 mark]
(b)        Describe the illustrated activity under the following headings:
                        (i)         stance;                                                                                      [2 marks]
                        (ii)        execution.                                                                                [4 marks]

(c)        State three faults associated with the activity illustrated in the illustrated diagram.
[3 marks]

Observation

 

 

This question was not popular among the candidates as majority of them did not respond to it.

In part (a), majority of the candidates identified the activity illustrated in the diagram.

In part (b), majority of the candidates could not describe the activity illustrated in the diagram.

In part (c), majority of the candidates could not state three faults associated with the activity in the illustrated diagram.

(b)        Description of the activity

  •  Stance
  • Stand with the two or both feet on the ground
  • Spread your hand with one raised up and the other spread at the hip level
  • Place feet comfortably apart
  • Arms stretched sideways
  • Facing the direction of the movement left hand side

 

  • Execution
  • Step swing the body vigorously to one side
  • One hand is placed in front of the foot on the side
  • Push with the foot and extend the other leg up
  • The other hand is placed in front of the leading hand
  • The legs swings in a semi-circular path over the head
  • The head is kept back
  • Legs are kept straight through out
  • Finish in a standing position with the arms sideways and the legs in astride position

                                                                                   
(c)        Faults associated with the activity

  • Poor standing position
  • Failure to make four contacts of the hands and legs with the floor
  • Failure to move on a straight line
  • Take off with two feet/double take off
  • Head not kept back
  • Toes not pointing up
  • Finishing without proper balancing rather the athlete will fall/not finishing in a standing position
