Study the diagram below and answer the questions 8(a) to (c).

 

(a)        Identify the activity in the illustrated diagram.                                               [1 mark]
(b)        Describe the illustrated activity under the following headings:
(i)         stance;                                                                                      [2 marks]
(ii)        execution;                                                                                [3 marks]
(iii)       recovery.                                                                                 [1 mark]
(c)        State two faults associated with the activity illustrated in the illustrated diagram.  
[3 marks]

Observation

 

 

This question was not popular among the candidates as majority of them avoided it.

In part (a), majority of the candidates were able to identify the activity in the illustrated diagram.

In part (b), majority of the candidates could not describe the activity illustrated in the diagram.

In part (c), majority of the candidates could not state three faults associated with the activity in the illustrated diagram.


However, the expected answers are as follows:

  • In a standing position/stand erect on both feet
  • Hands raised up shoulder width apart
  • Raise the left or right leg up
  • Flexed at the knee facing the direction of the activity
  • With both hand stretched out in front of the body

 

                                    Execution

  • Palms planted firmly on the mat/floor
  • Transfer weight to the hand gradually
  • Raised one leg
  • Two legs are up/extend legs over the head
  • Back slightly arched
  • Legs closed together
  • Toes pointing upwards
  • Hands and legs straight
  • Head slightly raised backward
  • Maintain balance

                                    Recovery

  • Lower the legs one after the other/bring down the two legs one after the other
  • Back to a standing position
  • Maintain balance

 

(c)                    Faults associated with the activity

  • Inability to maintain balance/not maintaining balance
  • Inability to arch the back
  • Inability to raise head backward
  • Inability to straighten arms and legs/legs in inverted position
  • Hands placed on the ground/mat not shoulder wide apart
  • Fingers placed on the mat not pointing straight forward
