(b)        Mention five importance of sleep.                                                                  [5 marks]        

Observation

 

This question was popular among the candidates and their performance was average.

In part (a), a fair attempt was made on the question, and few candidates wrote correct answers. However, majority of them stated three ways of preventing bruises during sports performance.

In part (b), majority of the candidates were able to mention five importance of sleep.

 

The expected answers are as follow:
(i)         Definition of nerve cell
Is a cell / neuron that carries information between the brain and other parts of the body.
                                                                                    OR
Is a type of cell that receives and sends electrical messages from the body / spinal cord to the brain and back to the body.
                                                                                    OR
                        Is the basic structural unit of nerves system that responds to stimuli
                                                           
            (ii)        Ways of preventing bruises during sports performance

  • Wear protective gears / named where necessary
  • Apply skills properly in all activities/appropriate techniques
  • Avoid hazardous environment / named
  • Apply safety rules in all events at all times/instructions and information
  • Possess high level of physical fitness/do not exert beyond level of fitness
  • Adequate warm up

   (b)  Importance of sleep

  • It helps in the relaxation of the heart
  • It enhances relaxation of the joints/muscles and curb inflammation of joints
  • It rejuvenates the body/conserves energy
  • Wise use of leisure time
  • It helps in the relaxation of the brain /academic performance
  • It enhances good mental health
  • It helps to overcome tensions and job stress /reduction of anxiety and depression
  • It enhances sports performance
  • It aids digestion/accelerates removal of waste
  • It helps /aids longevity
