    Consider Lamboi as the villain in the play


Observation

 

The candidates were demanded to discuss how the character presentation of Lamboi portrays him as the villain in the play. They concentrated on mere narration.

 

A correct answer should contain:

  • A discussion on the theme of betrayal of trust resulting from inordinate ambition.
  • Definition of villain: a villain is a vicious and malicious character who opposes the hero and tries to destroy him/her. Lamboi fits this description of a villain in the play
  • A clear setting identification of Lamboi.
  • Lamboi's allegations against king Gbanya and Yoko: He suspects Gbanya might hand over the chiefdom to Yoko, ‘a soft woman who has music in her ears ....and legs wide open for a man’. He alleges that Yoko is "Scared of the Governor "and "vicious", "bent on doing anything to hang on to power".
  • Lamboi's plot to unseat Yoko: He blackmails Musa to make him (Musa), an accomplice in the killing of Gbanya, He plans, together with Musa, the kidnapping and killing of Jeneba in order to implicate Yoko.’ He almost succeeds in causing an insurrection against Yoko. He runs away with Musa when the insurrection fails.

The candidates’ performance was good.
