Question 2

JOHN K. KARGBO: Let me Die Alone
To what extent is Jeneba’s disappearance a turning point in the play?

Observation

This question was popular among the candidates as many attempted it.

A correct answer should contain:

  • A discussion on the theme of struggle for power
  • A clear character identification of Jeneba: she is the only child of Ndapi and his wife; darling of everyone; adopted by Yoko later in the play.
  • Jeneba’s disappearance; Lamboi and Musa kidnap and kill Jeneba; Their aim is to turn the people against Yoko.
  • The discovery of Jeneba’s body with throat slit to show that Yoko had not buried her alive as claimed by Lamboi and Musa.
  • Lamboi and Musa flee.

The candidates’ performance was good.
