Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in the following areas:

(1) Mechanical Accuracy – Most candidates made a lot of spelling errors  in their essays and this resulted in their scoring low marks under mechanical accuracy.

(2) Content – Some candidates were unable to write up to the required length for the essays i.e. 300 words.
 
(3) Literature – Some candidates did not answer the literature part properly because of their inability to buy or read the recommended texts.

(4) Poor handwriting -  Some candidates’ handwritings were very poor and illegible which therefore jeopardized their chances of good scores.          

Teachers should prepare their students very well before the examination by giving them essay to write periodically.  They also need to emphasize the importance of students buying and reading the recommended textbooks to enable them tackle questions with ease on literature.
