Question 6

Candidates were required to

(a)  Define fastening as used in garment construction.
(b) Give example of fastening used on men’s wear.
(c) State differences between worked buttonhole and bound buttonhole

(d) Mention examples of the following types of fastening (concealed and decorative)

OBSERVATION

Most of the candidates attempted this question and they performed very well in (a) and (b) but for (c) and (d) it was a woeful performance. Most of the candidates were stating the difference between buttonholes and bound buttonhole as light and weight, decorative and plain instead of worked on medium to light weight fabric while worked on fabric which fray badly. ‘d’ parts expected answers are concealed- press studs, hook and bar while decorative is eyelet and cord, frogs and zip.
