Candidates were required to

(a) Differentiate between the following pairs of terms (renovation and remodeling, patching and darning).


(b) Draw the front bodice pattern and indicate the following (notches, cutting lines, seam lines, place on fold, straight grain and alteration).

OBSERVATION

Only few candidates from different centres attempted this question and they performed poorly especially in Differentiate between the following pairs of terms: renovation and remodelling, patching and darning. Also were unable to draw and indicates pattern symbols on the bodices pattern. The expected answers are renovation involves changing parts of a garment or adding colour to the faded parts of a garment or making minor changes in the appearance of clothing to renew them. Example, reducing a long sleeve to a short sleeve while remodelling is the process of making new articles or garments out of used or outmoded articles. Example a pair of trousers may be remodeled into a skirt or a bag and patching is the replacement of fabric in a torn or worn out area of an article with a stronger piece of fabric. Darning is a way of mending holes by interweaving threads with a needle across the hole. The ‘b’ parts of the question are
