  1. Narrate the incident that led to Elijah’s pronouncement of drought on Israel.
  2. Suggest four ways by which religious conflicts can be prevented in the society.

 

Observation

 

 

This question was less popular among the candidates. The performance to this question wasaverage. Some candidates were familiar with thisstoryline of how Elijah pronounced drought on Israel, however few candidates lost good marks because they provided the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal instead.Candidates were expected to give these additional points;

  1. When Asa was thirty years on the throne of Judah, Ahab, the son of Omri became king in Israel.
  2. Ahab ruled over Israel in Samaria for twenty-two years.
  3. Ahab did more evil than his predecessors in the sight of the Lord.
  4. Ahab married Jezebel, the daughter of a Sidonian king.
  5. Because of the foreign women Ahab married, he began to serve and worship Baal.
  6. He built an altar for Baal in Samaria and made an Asherah for Jezebel.
  7. During the reign of Ahab, a lot of atrocities were committed before God than any other king that had reigned before him.
  8. The sins of Ahab made God to be angry at Israel.
  9. Therefore, God sent Prophet Elijah to Ahab to proclaim drought on Israel.
  10. The Lord told Elijah to go and hide himself by the brook Cherith.
  11. Elijah was to drink from the brook and God commanded ravens to feed him.
  12. He drank from the brook.
  13. Ravens brought him bread and meat both in the morning and evening.
  14. After a while, the brook dried up because there was no rain in Israel.

 

Other points expected in the B part are;
Ways to prevent religious conflicts in society.

  1. Religion should not be misused/ abused or used to justify violence.
  2. Religious leaders should follow the tenets of their religions and not play politics with these tenets/ practicing forgiveness
  3. Religious leaders should encourage the youths not to be violent.
  4. Dialogue should be encouraged as one of the best solutions to religious tension.
  5. Government should be encouraged to establish an institute for inter religious dialogue in the country.
  6. People should be educated on how to tolerate the faith of other religious groups.
  7. Avoidance of discrimination based on religion.
  8. Religious fanaticism should be avoided.
  9. Studying to understand and appreciate religions other than one’s own.
  10. Encouraging inter-faith marriages.
  11. Ecumenism
  12. Encouraging engagements among the various religions e.g.(sports, projects, festivals)
