Observation


The popularity of this question was on the average. The strength of those who attempted it lies in their ability to show good mastery of the passage and their ability to narrate what happened to Peter and the other disciples in the upper chambers on the day of Pentecost when they were filled with the Holy Spirit which led them to speaking in tongues. Points candidates wrote includes;

i. Peter upon hearing the accusation of drunkenness, addressed the crowd that it was too early to get drunk. ii. It was rather the fulfillment of Joel’s prophesy that in the last days God would pour out His spirit upon all flesh.
iii. God had promised that their sons and daughters would prophesy, their men would have vision and their old men dream dreams.
iv. And those who would call on the name of the Lord would be saved.
v. Peter continued that Jesus was crucified by sinful men according to the fore knowledge and plan of God.
vi. God then raised Christ from the dead, having loosed the pangs of death from Him.
vii. He said that when David died and was buried, his tomb was still there.
viii. As a prophet, David prophesied about the resurrection of Jesus.
ix. According to Peter, God raised up Jesus and exalted Him at His right hand.
x. Furthermore, Jesus received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit which He poured out on the disciples.
xi. Peter declared again that God had made Jesus both Lord and Christ.

Benefits of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to the church
i. It offered the church courage and fearlessness in facing persecutions and authorities who oppose her.
ii. It enabled the church to evangelize and expand.
iii. Church growth is attributable to the work of the Holy Spirit.
iv. It gave members the ability to live a righteous and morally upright lives.
v. It enables the church to speak in tongues.
vi. The gift of prophesying has become prominent.
vii. It assists the church to understand the scriptures.
