Civic Education Paper 2 Aug./Sept. 2021

SECTION B
EMERGING ISSUES IN THE SOCIETY

Question 5

(a) Explain the term human trafficking
(b) Describe six socio-economic consequences of human trafficking on the victims.

Observation

This question was less popular as many candidates tried to avoid it possibly because of the part B. The performance of most candidates who answered it was below average. Candidates were able to tackle the A part much better than the B part. Students could not tell the consequence of trafficking on victims. These consequences are highlighted below.

A. DEFINITION OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING

It is defined as all activities/processes of recruitment, transportation, harbouring or receiving of persons by force or deception across domestic or international boundaries for the purposes of engagement in forced labour, slavery, prostitution and other forms of exploitation.

  1. Loss of individual’s capacity to engage in voluntary economic activities.

  3. May contact deadly diseases eg HIV
  4. Forced labour.
  5. Violation of the victim’s rights.
  6. Slavery.
