NATIONAL ETHICS, DISCIPLINE, RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

Question 3

(a) Identify five factors that may disrupt healthy community relations.
(b) State five observable ills in communities bedevilled by violence.

Observation

This was a popular question. All the candidates who attempted it demonstrated good understanding of the demands of the question; they performed credibly well and scored high marks especially in the B part where they were able to state how violence causes hindrances to societal progress. Nevertheless, some candidates deprived themselves of scoring the maximum mark obtainable in the B part by just highlighting the points without explaining them. Below are samples of answers candidates were expected to provide to the question;

A. FACTORS THAT MAY DISRUPT HEALTHY COMMUNTIY RELATIONS

  1. Disagreement on chieftaincy disputes,
  2. Disagreement on land ownership and control over other scare resources.
  3. Greed among community leaders.
  4. High level of illiteracy/ignorance among individuals of the societies.
  5. Past/lingering historical experiences.

B. OBSERVABLE ILLS IN COMMUNITIES BEDEVILLED BY VIOLENCE

  1. Uncertainty and confusion in the societies.
  2. Increase of criminal activities/criminality in the communities.
  3. Destruction of lives and properties/arson.
  4. Disruption of socio-economic activities.
  5. Hunger/malnutrition,
  6. Poverty and low standard of living.
  7. Disruption of academic activities in schools.
  8. Outbreak of diseases.
