(a)        List the six stages involved in testing a newly laid drain using the water test method.

(b)        State three reasons for providing a ceiling in a roof construction.
(c).       List three methods of finishing an external surface of a sandcrete block wall.

Observation

 

Majority of the candidates were able to:

  • state three reasons for providing a ceiling in a roof construction.
  • list three methods of finishing an external surface of a sandcrete block wall

However, many of them failed to List the six stages involved in testing a newly laid drain using the water test method

The expected response to question 3(a) is as given below:

 

Stages involved in testing a newly laid drain using the water test method:

    • plug the lower end of the drain;
    • fix 1.5m water head cistern to the pipe;
    • fill to the required level
    • leave it for about 2 hours and check the water level;
    • top up the water when required;

 

check the levels again after an hour where drop of water observed is greater, the pipeline must be inspected for leakages.
