Fig. 2 is the pictorial diagram of a d.c. circuit connected by an RTV technician.
- Using the circuit symbols of the components, draw the circuit diagram of the connection.
- Calculate the:
- equivalent resistance of the circuit;
- value of current the ammeter is expected to read.
(Assume the resistance of LED is negligible)
- Deduce the colour codes on resistors R1 and R2.
Observation
The expected responses were:
(a) Circuit diagram of connection using circuit symbols
Question 2 required candidates to translate a pictorial diagram into an equivalent circuit diagram, determine effective resistance and apply Ohms Law. According to the Chief Examiner, only a few candidates attempted question 2 and the responses of the majority of them to the tasks were not so impressive.
