Radio,Television And Electronic Paper 2, WASSCE (SC), 2017

Question 1

  1. (i) Explain the term ‘hazard’ in Radio, Television and Electronic Works (RTV)

     workshop
(ii) State four ways of preventing electric shock in a RTV workshop.

  1. A student discovered a mistake after soldering a component into a circuit board. In other to make the circuit work, he needs to remove the component and fix it appropriately.

State :

  1. the name of the process of removing the component from the circuit board;
  2. three tools required for 1(b)(i);
  3. one property of a solder.
  4. List three fault finding equipment in a RTV workshop.

Observation

The expected answers were:

  • (i) Hazard is a situation/event in the workshop that exposes one to risks (or may harm

     people) or damage equipment.

(ii) Ways of preventing electric shock in the workshop

  • Always keep the floor dry
  • Ensure circuits are well grounded/earthed.
  • Avoid horseplay.
  • Wear protective equipment.
  • Avoid keeping wires naked.
  • Use tools with appropriate insulation.
  • Avoid working on live circuits.
  • Discharge high voltage capacitors.

(b) (i) De-soldering
(ii) Tools required for (b)(i)

  • Lead sucker
  • De-soldering wick
  • Soldering iron
  • Long nose pliers
  • Soldering iron support/stand
  • Brush
  • Emery cloth/smooth file
  • Flat-head screw driver

     (iii)Properties of solder

  • Lower melting point compared to the work piece
  • Non-emission of poisonous gas
  • Resistance to corrosion
  • Easy to set
  • It is flexible

(c) Fault finding equipment in a Radio, TV and Electronic Works (RTV) workshop

  • Television analyzer
  • Signal tracer
  • Oscilloscope
  • Logic probe
  • Neon tester
  • Digital frequency counter
  • Multimeter
  • Transistor tester
  • Avometer
  • Audio tester
