Observation
This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was poor in it. In part (a) most of the candidates could not correctly state when a team loses a point in a doubles tennis match. In part (b) majority of the candidates could not correctly list parts of a tennis court.
The expected answers are as follow:
(a) Instances when a team loses a point in a doubles tennis game
- failure to return the ball over the net into the opponents’ court
- failure to hit the ball after the first bounce
- player returns the ball such that it hits the ground on his own court before going over the net
- player strikes/hits the ball more than once
- a player’s racket/jersey touches the net/post/metal cable/ground within opponents’ court while ball is in play
- player hits the ball in such a way that it falls outside the boundary line/court
- player hits the ball coming from the opponents before it crosses the net
- ball in play touches the player/jersey
- player throws the racket at the ball
- player returns a served ball before it lands
- playing the ball without racket in hand
