  1. This question was on committee’s report, importance of information while the b part tests candidates’ knowledge of principles of organization.

Comments
Most of the candidates avoided the question but those who attempted it performed poorly. A considerable percentage of the candidates did not attempt this question.     
Some of the responses expected from the candidates were:
  (a)      Importance of committee’s report to the company:
(i)         it gives update on event of the company to the management
(ii)        it serves as basis for decision making
(iii)       it helps to identify organization’s problems
(iv)       it assist in finding solution to problems
(v)        it helps to check unsatisfactory performances so as to take corrective steps or action
(vi)       it serves as a basis for future planning
(b)      (i)         good information is essential for effective operation and decision making
          (ii)        It identifies and illustrate different kinds of information
           (iii)        it provides electronic security storage and effective communication
           (iv)       it enhances efficiency and provides a competitive edge to the organization
           (v)        information stimulates the thought process of the public
           (vi)       information helps in better management of manpower, materials, production,    
                       finance, marketing etc.
(c)      Principles of organization:
(i)        Span of control: This refers to the number of subordinate that an executive can     effectively manage. It also refers to the number of subordinate reporting to and controlled by the manager
 (ii)       Unity of command: This principle stated that an employee should receive orders from one superior officer
(iii)      Unity of objective: Each department should work together for the realization of organization’s goal
(iv)      Delegation of authority: This principle has to do with transfer to others, the authority for the performance of a specific task and making decision. This is a process whereby authority and responsibility are transferred to a subordinate by a superior.
