Marketing WASSCE (SC), 2021

Weakness and Remedies

Some of the weaknesses observed in the candidates’ scripts were:

  • Most candidates showed lack of in-depth knowledge in the topics upon which the questions were based.
  • Most candidates did not attempt question on application. Where they did, their performance was not good.
  • Most of the candidates have poor hand writing and this contributed to their poor performances.
  • Some candidates could not set a clear distinction between the word list and state. For question 1a, 2a, 3b, 5a and 5b (ii) the student were to state the points, which attracted 2 marks but they listed the points. Half of the points was awarded for their answered because they misinterpreted list for state.

    SUGGESTED REMEDIES

Teachers should endeavor to cover the scheme of work so as to guide the candidates well.
-           Proper reviews with past question papers should be encouraged.
-           students should be given proper orientation on how to attempt WAEC questions.
-           Candidates should study standard text books on Salesmanship, Marketing and others as recommended in preparing for the examination.
-           The Council should instruct the Ministry of Education to encourage secondary schools to employ quality Marketing teachers to teach the students.
-           Teacher should expose students to the expectations of different question commands. i.e. “State” and “List”.
-           Teachers should teach students how to answer applied questions.
