Literature-In-English Paper 2 WASSCE (SC), 2020

Question 5

    RICHARD WRIGHT: Native Son

Comment on Bigger’s last moments with Max.

Observation

A good number of candidates attempted this question. They were, however, unable to discuss Max’s defence and Bigger’s death sentence.

The following points should be well developed by the candidates:

  • Statement of the theme.
  • The trail of Bigger; his crime and punishment.
  • The plea of his lawyer, Max.
  • Bigger’s declaration of no regrets for his action.
  • The significance of the moments between client and lawyer.

Candidates’ performance in this question was fair.
