Question 2

    To what extent are men portrayed as oppressors of women in the novel?

Observation

This was a popular question. Most of the candidates focused only on Fofo’s oppression, leaving out the experiences of other characters.

The following points should be well developed by candidates:

 

  • Statement of the central theme.
  • Identification of the male and female characters: Kwei, Kpakpo, Onko. Maa Tsuru, Adade, Kabria, Poison etc.
  • The roles of the characters in the advancement of the plot.
  • Establish the kind of relationship that exist between them.
  • The extent to which men are portrayed as oppressors of women.

 

Candidates’ performance in this question was good.
