Most of the candidates have not yet mastered the correct use of the French verbs which remains the core of all sentence formation.  The verbs were wrongly conjugated and used.  Some of the candidates were equally weak in the use, positioning and placement of accents, negations and pronouns in sentences.  They believed that words could be placed anywhere in the sentence.

          In Translation, most of the candidates wrote meaningless translation.  They translated the sentences word for word.

          To improve on candidates performance, teachers of French should be more involved in the teaching of the basic grammatical rules at each lesson.

          They should ensure that the students are well drilled in French verbs starting with the tenses.  They should also teach the students how to avoid word for word translation.
