C
D
(iii) Name two other materials that are examples of the term stated in 2(a)(i).
(b) (i) Classify specimens E, F, G, H, and J into fish feed and fish food.
(ii) Which of the fish feed classified in 2(b)(i) is protein-yielding?

(iii) List four advantages of specimen J to fish

Observation

A few candidates were able to name the protein yielding feed ingredient from specimens E (Earthworm), F (Maggot), G (Pawpaw leaves), H (Rice grain), and J (Soya bean cake). However, many candidates could not differentiate between uses and advantages of.

The expected answers were:

(a)        (i)         Collective name for  specimens C (Fish entrails) and D (Fish bones)

  • Fish by-product

(ii)        Uses of specimens C (Fish Entrails) and D (Fish bones)
Specimen C (Fish Entrails)

  • Bait
    • Fertilizer / Manure
  • Feed / Feed additive

Specimen D (Fish bones)

  • Feed / Feed additives / Bone meal
  • Source of minerals / Calcium / Phosphorus

(iii)       Examples of other Fish By-products
   -           Scales
-           Fins
-           Fish Oil
-           Skin
-           Spines

  • (b)         (i)       Classification of specimens E (Earthworm), F (Maggot), G (Pawpaw leaves),  H (Rice bran) and J (Soya bean cake) into fish food and fish feed

Fish feed

Fish food

  • Specimen H (Rice bran)
  • Specimen J (Soya bean cake)
  • Specimen E (Earthworm)
  • Specimen F (Maggot)
  • Specimen G (Pawpaw leaves)

(ii)        Protein - yielding feed ingredient

Specimen J (Soya bean cake)

(iii)       Advantages of Specimen J (Soya bean cake) to fish
-           Helps fish to grow
-           Builds resistance against disease
-           Helps build fish flesh
-           Development of hormones
-           For enzyme production
-           Egg/milt development /production
-           Helps in the repair /replacement of worn out tissues
