Data Processing Paper 2, WASSCE (SC), 2021

Question 6

  Figure1 shows the schematic procedure of an information processing system. Input into the system are biometric based data as other details had been captured. Use the figure to answer questions 6(a) to 6(c).

Figure 1

(a)        List:
(i)  two biometric data capturing devices at the data entry point;
(ii) two transmission media for sending the output to the internet;
(iii) one output device to give out audio output from the system;
(iv)  two types of data that can be viewed in the display.

(b)        Give one:
(i) difference between information stored in the part labeled storage and the     part labeled internet in terms of access;
(ii) reason the biometric data is foolproof.

(c)        If data already captured into the system include: students’ scores, state of origin and age; outline the two operations possible at the processing unit.

(d)        Figure 2 represents the interface of an application software. Use the figure to answer questions 6(d)(i) and (ii)

Figure 2

State one:

  1. use of the parts labeled I to V;
  2. difference between the parts labeled II and III

This question also tested candidates’ skills in using the computer for data processing.

Observation

The expected answer is:

(a)       Listing of items:

(i)Biometric Data Capturing Devices

        • Finger Print Scanner
        • Audio Detector
        • Retina Scan

        (ii)Transmission Media

        • Wireless transmission
        • Wired/Cable

        (iii)Output Device

        • Speaker
        • Earpiece

        (iv)Data that can be viewed in the display:

        • Video
        • Graphic
        • Text

        (b)

      1. The information stored on the Internet can be accessed anywhere and anytime while access to the information in the storage can only be accessed at its location only.
      2. No two people/individual have the same biometric dataset.

      (c) Operations possible at the processing unit;

      1. Logical operation
      2. Arithmetic operation

(d)

(i)Uses of the labeled parts:

        1. For writing the recipient’s email address
        2. For copying other recipient(s)/other recipient’s email.
        3. For blind copying other recipient(s).
        4. For typing the Subject or Title of the message.
        5. For typing the message/body of the email.

        (ii)The difference between the parts labeled II and III is that in the part labeled II, each recipient can see other recipients’ email addresses while in the part labeled III, each recipient cannot see other recipients’ email addresses.

It was reported that though most of the candidates showed poor skill in data processing.
