Question 5

 

      A student was given an assignment which involved typesetting a passage at home using a laptop computer. The student was required to bring the soft copy of the assignment in a flash drive with volume label STUDENT_ASSIGNMENT to the school.
Highlight the steps the student would take to:
(a)  save the typeset work in the flash drive;
(b)  create a folder named ASSIGNMENTS on the desktop of a computer in the school’s computer laboratory and save the typeset assignment in the folder;
(c)  print the assignment from the folder created in 5(b).

 

       The question tested candidates’ skills on computer operations.

 

 

Observation

The expected answer is:

(a)   Steps in saving the documents in the flash drive

      • insert the flash drive into the USB port on the laptop
      • click on the Office button/File menu
      • select “Save As”
      • on the save As dialog box, select the flash drive named STUDENT_ASSIGNMENT
      • type in/give a name for the document in the box labeled “File Name”
      • click on the “Save” button/press enter

                                                     

(b)Creating a named folder and saving the document in it:

      • right-click on an empty space on the desktop
      • point to New
      • select folder
      • type in the name “ASSIGNMENTS” as the folder name
      • click on an empty space or press the ENTER key
      • insert the flash drive into the USB port on the computer
      • open the flash drive
      • copy the file into the clipboard
      • open the folder named ASSIGNMENTS
      • paste the file from the clipboard into the folder                                

     

    (c)Printing the assignment from the folder:

      • open the folder named ASSIGNMENTS
      • open the document to be printed or right-click and select print
      • click on the print command or press “Ctrl + P”
      • choose the printer to be used from the options
      • click on print                                                                                                                       

The Chief Examiner reported that candidates’ responses in this question revealed poor practical skills among majority of those who attempted the question.
