(c) State four ways in which interdepartmental communication is important to a business.

Observation

The question was fairly answered by candidates except that some candidates explained commercialization for deregulation. Other could not state ways interdepartmental communication is important to business.


The expected responses to the question include:


(a) Deregulation is a policy of government that involves removal of controls and subventions in a line of business, thus allowing for competition.
(b) Advantages of Deregulation

      i. It removes barriers to entry into business.

      ii. It brings about competition and efficiency in the production of goods and services.

      iii. It prevents wastage of government funds and subsidies.

      iv. The cost of deregulated goods will reduce drastically.

      v. It affords the consumers wider range of choice of goods and services at competitive prices.

      vi. It allows market forces to determine prices.

      vii. Businesses can formulate their own strategies and processes without government interference.

      viii. It encourages private individuals to set up industries that will generate employment.

      ix. It reduces corruption as industries would not be in the hands of government officials.



      (c) Importance of Interdepartmental Communication to business

          i. It facilitates the passage of information to all departments. ii. There is cordial relationship among staff, thereby enhancing harmony within the organization.

          iii. It leads to better understanding of the organizational policies and objectives.

          iv. It enhances productivity and efficiency within the organization as employees’ efforts are driven towards a common goal.

          v. It prevents grapevine from thriving, thereby preventing distortion of information.

          vi. It enables projections and targets to be met.

          vii. It enhances customer service in all the departments.

          viii. It prevents conflicts and finger-pointing in the organization.

          ix. It ensures quick decision making in the organization.
