(a) Explain three reasons for which an individual suffering from an ailment
should not use the same drugs medically prescribed for another.

(b) Highlight three ways of preventing wrong administration of drugs by
individuals.

Observation

 

This question was equally popular as it attracted a vast percentage of the candidates. To majority of those who attempted it, their performances were incredible. Additional points candidates could have given are

(a)        Reasons for which an individual suffering from an ailment should not use the same drugs medically prescribed for another

  1. To avoid drug abuse/addiction
  2. Because drugs are of different grams
  3. It is a crime/illegal
  4. It increases the risk of loss of life
  5. It may cause serious side effects or allergic reactions
  6. It may make the illness become harder to treat
  7. Medications affect people differently
  8. For effective treatment
  9. It may deprive the prescription holder of the resources they need to stay healthy and balanced
  10. It may interact with other medications negatively
  11. It can put physical and mental health in jeopardy/harmful to health
  12. Not sure of the drug type and reaction

 

(b)       Ways of preventing wrong administration of drugs by individuals

  1. Proper drug education
  2. Monitoring of medical shops/chemists
  3. Reading through the dosage written on the package or leaflet of drug
  4. Ensuring that only prescribed drugs by qualified medical doctors or personnel are bought and taken by individuals
  5. Individuals should find out the drugs they are taking and what it is for
  6. Package design on drugs should protect the consumer against wrong usage
