Observation

Candidates who attempted this question were able to provide the required response to part (c) of the question.  However, parts (a) and (b) were poorly answered.  The required responses to parts (a) and (b) are:

 

   (ii)        Functions of a gasket are:

-           it is used to provide a seal between two joints;
-           it provides a gas tight, oil tight, water tight, air tight
seal between two surfaces in contact;
-           it is use to prevent metal to metal contact between
two surfaces.

 

(iii)       -           Gaskets are fitted between crankcase and oil pan
(sump)
-           Cylinder head and manifold – water pump housing
-           Between fuel pump and the cylinder block or head
-           Timing chain cover and cylinder block
-           Cylinder block and cylinder head
-           Valve cover and cylinder head
-           Carburettor cover and the base.
