The diagrams below illustrate some farm tools. Study them and answer the questions that follow.

 

 

(a) Identify the farm tools illustrated in diagrams A and B.                                        (2 marks)
(b) Name the parts labelled I, II, III and IV in diagram B.                                         (4 marks)
(c) Mention one function of each of the parts labelled I, II, III and IV in diagram B.               (4 marks)
(d) State one use of each of the illustrated farm tools.                                                (2 marks)
(e) Give three ways of maintaining the tool in diagram A.                                        (3 marks)

 

Observation

 

This question was the most popular question and candidates’s responses were generally
    impressive. Some candidates however mislabeled hand fork for garden fork.

I  -  For pushing the wheelbarrow
  II - For carrying farm produce / farm inputs
  III   -  For supporting the wheelbarrow at rest
IV -  For movement

(d)       Uses of farm tools
A (Hand fork)              
-   For loosening the soil
-   Mixing manure with the soil
-   Light digging                                                                    

  B (Wheelbarrow)       
-              Transporting inputs e.g. fertilizers and seeds
-           Carrying farm produce e.g. harvested crops
-           Transporting seedlings from the nursery to the field
