Observation

 

Candidates’ performance in Question 1 was below average.                                                        
(a)        Many candidates could not draw and label parts of the land snail as
well as state the features of its housing unit. Furthermore, some candidates
misconstrued the insect pests of sheep with the predators of the land snail.
            (b)        Many candidates were unable to state the ways in which the productivity
of farm animals could be enhanced.

  • It must have shade
  • Must be secured against pests 
  • It should contain loam soil rich in humus
  • Housing unit must be escape proof
  • It must be well ventilated
  • Separate apartment for adult snails and young snails (snailets)
  • Environment must be moist
  • Must facilitate easy cleaning⁄ ease of management
  • Avoid excess light in the snail pen
  • Soil must not be acidic
  • Secured against predators
  • Protect snails from excessive wind
  • Soil should be sandy to minimize waterlogging
  • Sufficient space for snails to graze freely
