(a) Enumerate six consequences of cultism in the society.

(b) State three hindrances to the eradication of cultism in Nigeria.

Observation

The question was very popular amongst candidates. Majority of the candidates who attempted this question demonstrated good grasp of the question.

 

A.        Consequences of Cultism in the society

  1. Promotion of violence in the society
  2. Breakdown of law and order/insecurity
  3. Disruption of academic activities/calendar
  4. Proliferation of arms in the society
  5. Moral decadence/promotion of negative values/value disorientation
  6. Increase in crime rate e.g. armed robbery, rape, kidnapping, etc.
  7. Increase in drug abuse and trafficking
  8. Spread of HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
  9. It leads to spiritual/mental problem among people engaged in it.

 

B.     HINDRANCES TO THE ERADICATION OF CULTISM IN NIGERIA

  1. Corruption
  2. General economic hardship/poverty in society
  3. Irresponsible parenting/child upbringing
  4. Negative peer influence
  5. Involvement of some parents/guardians in cult activities
  6. Exposure to negative media influence e.g. violence/crime related films
  7. Strong commitment to oath of membership by cultists
  8. Ignorance of wards/parents/guidance and school administrators
  9. Support from some influential people in society/God-fatherism
  10. Ineffective/non-implementation of sanctions/punishment of cultists
  11. Bad leadership
