DETAILED COMMENTS ON EACH QUESTION


SPECIFICATIONS

FOUNDATION:                   450 x 150 concrete strip laid at a depth of 900
below ground level.

FLOOR:                                 Earth filling.
                                    Hardcore 300.
Concrete slab 150.
Mortar screed 25.

WALLS:                                All walls are 150sandcrete hollow blocks walls with 12mm mortar
                                                Rendering on both sides.

BEAMS/LINTELS              
AND COLUMNS:                150 x 225 reinforced concrete.

ARCHES:                              All arches are semi-circular reinforced concrete type.          

DOORS:                                 D1 – 1200 x 2100 two panelled wooden door with 150 x150  
hardwood timber frame.                    
                                    D2 – 900 x 2100 panlled wooden door with 150 x 150 hardwood timber frame.
D3 – 750 x 2100 two panelled wooden door with 150 x 150 hardwood timber frame.

WINDOWS:                          All windows are glazedmetal casement type.
W1 – 1500 x 1800 .
W2–  1200 x 1800.
W3 – 600 x 600.

 

THRESHOLD STEPS:        Width –   6000.                      
Tread   –   300
Rise    –150.

ROOF:                       Double pitched roof with corrugated aluminium sheets.
Pitch:   =150
Eaves projection – 750;
Height from ground floor to ceiling - 3000

 

Question 1

 

To a scale of 1:50, draw the detailed section B – B of the building from the foundation to the
roof.
A good number of candidates did well by showing:

-           grapically, the solid ground floor elements ( i.e earth filling, hardcore filling,    concrete floor slab and mortar screed finish ) with conventional symbols;
-           in details, the timber roof truss members and labelling the key parts properly.


Observation

 

Hower, it was observed that some of the candidates failed to:
-           present the appropriate roof view;
-           show the correct type of doors in elevation;
.           hatch the walls  drawn in section.
