  1. Mr Audu wants to establish a warehousing business. The storekeeper who will work there will be expected to maintain good storekeeping practices.

    (a) State five factors Mr Audu would consider before establishing the business.

     

    (b)State five benefits the business would derive from maintaining good storekeeping practices.

    Majority of the candidates attempted this question but the (b) aspect  to the question were misinterpreted by some candidates as some were listing the functions of storekeeper instead of stating the benefits derived from storekeeping practices as required by the examiner.

    The expected responses from candidates are:

    2 (a)     Factors Mr Audu would consider in setting up a warehousing business are as             follows:
    i.         Means of transportation and availability of good road network for easy                                            accessibility;   
    ii.         Presence of good labour force to support loading and unloading of goods;
    iii.        Government regulations on the goods to be kept in the warehouse;
    iv.        Proximity to the factories to ease movement of goods from factories to the warehouse;
    v.         Accessibility to source of power supply;
    vi.        Nearness of the warehouse to customers or market;
    vii.       Type of equipment to be used in the warehouse;
    viii.      The cost involved in setting up the warehouse;
    x.         The nature of the product to be kept;
    xi.         Availability of capital in setting up a warehouse;
    xii.         Availability of basic social amenities;
    xiii.        Adequate security for both staff and materials;
    xiv.        Adequate space for loading and unloading;
    xv.         Accessible location for suppliers and consumers.                                       

    (b)        Benefits the business will derive from maintaining good storekeeping practices are:
    i.          Reduction in the damage of stock items as a result of good handling;
    ii.         The correct quantity of stock would be maintained;
    iii.        The cost of handling stock will be reduced;
    iv.        The business would make profit as a result of reduction in cost of storage;
    vi.        Pilferage of stock by staff will be reduced;
    vii.       Capital would not be tied down unnecessarily;
    viii.      High level of obsolete items would be reduce;
    ix.        Proper documentation of material’s movement would be ensured;
    x.         Appropriate decision is made by the management on the report received in good time;
    xi.       Quality control is ensured in maintaining standard;
    xii.       It enhances free movement of staff and materials as a result of good store layout;
    xiii.      Safety of staff and materials is ensured.
