1(a)  State the use of the following store equipment:

  • bin;
  • dipstick;
  • weighbridge;
  • wheelbarrow;
  • forklift.

 

(b)  State five reasons safety measures are required in the store

Most of the candidates attempted this question and the performance was very encouraging.

The responses expected from candidates are:

1(a)      Uses of the following store equipment are

i. Bin:  This is a container for storing materials in the store. It can contain many items which are refillable at regular basis. It is available in metal and plastic which are stackable and re-useable. It can be placed in industry shelving. It stores parts, tools and other small materials.

 

ii.        Dipstick: This is used for measuring liquids (e.g petrol) delivered in bulk into tanks. It is usually calibrated for easy measurement.


iii.        Weighbridge: This is an equipment used to ascertain the weight of large consignments loaded on vehicle. A vehicle is weighed twice, once loaded with goods and once emptied to calculate the weight of materials involved.


iv.        Wheelbarrow: This is an equipment used for moving goods from one place to another in the store manually.


v.         Forklift: This is a mechanically operated truck that is used to lift and move materials kept on pallet over short

distances within the warehouse.

(b)        Reasons safety measures are required in the store
i.          To prevent accident that may result from operation in the store.
ii.         To prevent hearing sensitivity in noisy work environment.
iii.        To prevent harmful impact of chemical vapors.
iv.        To ensure that workers are protected against dangerous equipment that can harm.
v.         To prevent the company from being liable under employer liability.
vi.        To prevent workers from contracting work related diseases.
vii.       To prevent and fight against fire outbreak in the store.
viii.      To improve the quality of service in the store.
ix.        To avoid loss of lives of both staff and customers.
x.         To prevent loss of goods in the store.
