Question 3

  1. Write Sūratun-Nās (Q.114) either in Arabic or transliteration.
  2. Translate it into English.
  3. Comment on the lessons of the Sūrah.


Observation

 

This is one of the popular question among the candidates. Majority of the candidates who attempted this question got it right but few of them could not give adequate translation of the Sūrah. Despite that the general performance was still good.
The question requested the candidates to write in Arabic/transliteration, translate it inot English and comments on its lessons. Thus:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ                             

  1. قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ                                        
  2. مَلِكِ النَّاسِ
  3. إِلَهِ النَّاسِ
  4. مِنْ شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ
  5. الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ
  6. مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاس

Transliteration
Bismillāhir Ramānir Raḥīm

  1. Qul  ’acūdhu birabbin-Nās.
  2. Malikin-Nās.
  3. ’Ilāhin-Nās.
  4. Min sharril waswāsil khannās.
  5. Alladhī  yuwaswisu fī ṣudūrin-Nās.
  6. Minal- Jinnati wan-Nās.

Translation
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.

  1. Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of men.
  2. The King of men.
  3. The God of men.
  4. From the evil of the whisperings of the slinking (devil).
  5. Who whispers into the hearts of men.
  6. From among the jinn and  men.

 

Lessons

  1. Sūratun-Nās is aMakkan Chapter with six verses.
  2. The first three verses teach Divine attributes of Allah.
  3. Mankind are enjoined to seek refuge from Allah against evil.
  4. The Sūrah appeals to mankind to have trust in Allah rather than others.
  5. It warns mankind against the evil whisperers in his heart.
  6. It is one of the Sūrah recited to ward-off evils. 
  7. It is also one of the recommended prayers by the Prophet (S.A.W.) to say while retiring to bed at night.
  8. The Sūrah talks about mankind and Jinn.
