Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies

Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in these areas:

 

  1. poor understanding of Igbo proverbs;
  2. inability to tackle the literature aspect;
  3. illegible handwriting;
  4. inability to write the required length in essay writing;
  5. inability to define terms correctly

 

      SUGGESTED REMEDIES

    1. Government should consider making the three major ethnic languages compulsory in their different geographical zones.
    2. Teachers should ensure that candidates abide by the rules and guidelines for Igbo orthography.
    3. Teachers should encourage students to buy the recommended literature texts to enable them prepare well for the examination.
    4. The state libraries should be equipped with relevant Igbo grammar and literature books.
    5. Students should develop the attitude of reading novels to improve their vocabulary; students should always practise continuous writing in order to improve their writing skill and avoid spelling errors.
    6. Teachers should endeavour to cover the WAEC syllabus with their students.
    Candidates should be encouraged to always adhere to the rubrics.
