    .   The diagram below illustrates postures in humans.
    Study the diagrams carefully and answer questions 2(a), 2(b) and 2(c)

  1.  (a) Name the types of postures in the diagrams labelled A and B                  [2 marks]

 

  1.  (b) State three observable features each of the postures in diagrams

 A and B                                                                                                     [6marks]

  1.  (c) Suggest two measures to correct the posture in diagram B                      [ 2 marks]

     

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good.  In part (a) candidates correctly named the types of postures in the diagrams labelled A and B.  In part (b) candidates correctly state observable features each of the postures in diagrams A and B.  In part (c) candidates could not correctly suggest measures to correct he posture in diagram B.

The expected answers are as follows:

2 a       TYPES OF SITTING POSTURES IN THE DIAGRAM LABELLED A & B
A -       good sitting posture / correct /right/ appropriate sitting posture
B -       bad sitting posture / incorrect /wrong /inappropriate sitting posture
 

 

 b         OBSERVABLE FEATURES OF THE SITTING POSTURE LABELLED A

            -           head erect/upright
-           back /shoulders on the back rest of chair/back straight or upright
-           feet flat on the floor/legs straight
-           buttocks rest against back of chair
-           thigh and buttocks form right angle
 
OBSERVABLE FEATURES OF THE SITTING POSTURE LABELLED B

  • head bending / tilt forward
  • shoulder/neck forward
  • legs crossed / thigh not resting on the chair
  • feet not resting on floor
  • buttocks not properly seated/not resting on back of chair

-           ensure proper sitting position
-           use appropriate chair
