The candidates’ weaknesses included their inability to:
- express themselves well in English Language
- spell names/terminologies properly;
- label parts of/identify diagrams correctly
- state meaningful definition of terms such as malnutrition, Health insurance
- state differences between mitosis and meiosis
- interpret diagram in question 2 relating to digestion.
- follow given instructions.
The following remedies were suggested to overcome the weaknesses
- students should make adequate preparation for examination,
- qualified teachers should be employed for the subject,
- textbooks should be supplied;
- students should participate actively in physical activities;
- adequate supply of teaching aids e.g. charts;
- thorough supervision of schools by the Ministry of Education;
- WAEC should join Federal and State Ministry of Education to monitor the teaching of practical based subjects like Health Science.
