Candidates' Weakness

The following reasons contributed to some inadequacies observed in the performance of the candidates:

  • Spelling errors
  • Inadequate knowledge of topics such as mobile phone bands, common software problems, basic troubleshooting, fault finding in software.
  • Vague  knowledge of SIM permanently blocked error  
  • Lack of understanding of the workings between the memory card socket and the memory card
  • Inability to identify components in the power section of a phone circuit board and their functions.
  • Inability to
    • correctly explain the term GPRS
    • correctly distinguish between SIMlock and netlock
    • correctly identify items contained in a reballing kit and their functions

 

The suggested remedies were as follows:

  • All areas of the syllabus should be adequately taught by the teachers
  • More practical work is encouraged in schools;
  • Candidates should observe their industrial attachment scheme as recommended in the syllabus;
  • The need for Government and other stake holders to make available relevant resource materials and textbooks.
  • Qualified and well trained personnel should be recruited to teach the students
