OBSERVATION

This question was not a popular one among the candidates, as many did not attempt it and the few who attempted it performed in the (a) part.

Many candidates could not define Recommended Dietary Allowances as relative terms for a healthy state in an individual. These candidates performed fairly in the (b) and (c) parts of the question. They were able to list groups of people that need special diets and explain factors that can affect the nutritional needs of the people that need special diets.

The expected answers to this question are:

Definition of recommended dietary allowances

(a) Recommended dietary allowance is the amount of each nutrient that is considered adequate to maintain a healthy state in any individual.
(b) Groups of people that need special diets

  • infants and children
  • adolescents
  • pregnant women
  • lactating mothers
  • aged
  • invalids
  • convalescents
  • vegetarians
