OBSERVATION
Candidates were expected to differentiate between kitchen tools and equipment and to state the factors to be considered when selecting kitchen tools and equipment in question 5 (a) and (b). Candidates were required to state that kitchen tools are small movable gadgets/objects/items that are handy, easy to manipulate and carry about while kitchen equipment are big non movable gadgets/objects/items that are fixed, often not easy to manipulate. However, candidates stated tools and equipment as materials rather than objects and items but they correctly stated the factors to be considered when selecting kitchen tools and equipment.
Question 5 (c) demanded that candidates list the four parts of a refrigerator and give an example of a food item that are stored in each part. Majority of the candidates could not state the compartments correctly. They stated egg compartment, water compartment, fresh food compartment and frozen food compartment instead of freezing compartment, cabinet/cold part, crisper and door cabinet. Furthermore, they were unable to give examples of food items that are stored in the compartments.
